An Easter message of hope

At this particular time in America, for many of us Christians, the times seem very bad.

1. We have a president who denies to the world that we have a Christian nation, or even that America was founded on Christian/Jewish principles. He has even gone so far as to say that ISLAM has “shaped America”. (Like 9/11, and the New Jersey Moslems dancing in the streets over it? Like the embassy hostages the Moslems took from the Iranian embassy while Carter was in office? That is the only “shaping” Islam has done to America that I know of, other than possibly the Persian rug trade  and the demand for antique Persian rugs.)

2. I saw a news item Friday on the ‘Net that Dr. James Dobson is resigning his post as leader of “Focus on the Family” and  he made some remarks sounding as if the Obama presidency has him in despair over the future of Christianity.

3.I saw a news magazine yesterday (never mind which ONE!) that trumpeted on the cover,”The Decline and Fall of Christianity”.

I have also noticed that there are some very active, very loud, powerful and wealthy militant atheist groups out there, and some loud atheistic individuals,too. I will not steer anyone their way by NAMING them here. They are OUT THERE, and they are seemingly trying to drive Christians and all Christian symbols from public view,both by court cases, laws and public ridicule and blasphemy, with very generous press coverage of their successes. The ascendancy of the Left (who are mostly atheists or agnostic, to hear them talk or read their writings) has meant more and more court decisions and laws that are openly hostile to freedom of religious expression, but only for Christians, and sometimes Jews. Everyone else, ESPECIALLY the loud and militant atheists, have TOTAL freedom of THEIR LACK of “religion”. Our FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT!!!!! has even gone so far as to nominate some openly anti-Christian, anti-Catholic, anti-Pope people to be in the federal government. Any political influence we Christians have EVER had in America has apparently evaporated, to the point where we are lucky to not have lost the right to VOTE.

Enough,enough. There is PLENTY of hope left, enough things to do to keep us busy all our lives, and our children and grandchildren after us.

Remember, Jesus said,”My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36,KJV). Then, should OURS be? He said,”Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth”(Matthew 13:19)”. Why do WE try SO hard to get EARTHLY power, EARTHLY money, when He said THAT? How do we explain our striving for political power,if His Kingdom is NOT here? About all the “Christian coalition” of the past 2 decades has achieved is to deepen the animosity of the Left, and make them all the more eager to indoctrinate the rising generation against Christianity AND organized religion. They have made Christians APPEAR to be trying for a Christian THEOCRACY in Washington, an illusion that was helped along by the intemperate remarks of some prominent Christian leaders,who set themselves up as spokesmen for us ALL.

Seems to me that our major problem as Christians has been that we have tried Christianity and conservatism. C.S.Lewis, famed Christian writer and ex-atheist, warned again and again against “Christianity AND…” meaning using Christianity as a means to an end, rather than just BEING  Christians in the world. We have spent a lot of time, energy and creative talent to try to get the federal or state government to listen to Christians, to follow the Ten Commandments and other Christian/Jewish bedrock principles, which has mainly meant to enshrine the right to life of the unborn and infirm, and to allow freedom of religious expression, and to quit allowing those who are deep in sin to promote their sins more broadly, and even give those sins LEGAL STATUS. The Left has used those efforts against us, branded us as “sexist” ,”intolerant”, “old-fashioned”, “hating:,”outdated”,”women-haters” and “homophobes”. That has ALWAYS been their defense against ANY unpleasant truth, make the TRUTHTELLER seem like the bad guy by calling him an emotionally provocative NAME, thus keeping  uninformed  people  who are also lazy-minded from even WANTING to hear the “other side”. They have been SPECTACULARLY successful in this, and the unborn and heterosexual marriage are under attack like never before in HISTORY. What is worse, Christianity, in the eyes of many, has been reduced to a politically conservative, even backwards, special interest group, nothing more. That is an unspeakable TRAGEDY, a terrible mistake that will have to be corrected, and FAST.

I have some ideas for where we can go from here.

1. Let us BE Christians, NOT just talk about it.

In so doing,let us follow the Master’s example, AND His teachings as presented in the Gospels. FORGET about Paul for the time being. Some Christian leaders quote from Paul’s epistles almost exclusively, and NOT from Christ’s gospel. Paul taught repeatedly in his epistles that Christians were not to befriend or even help non-Christians, that their love and loyalty were to be toward EACH OTHER. Christ, on the other hand, taught quite OTHERWISE. Samaritans and Jews HATED each other when Jesus walked the earth, yet he told the parable of the “Good Samaritan” when asked by a Jewish lawyer,”Who IS my neighbor?” Obviously, by answering with THAT particular parable, his reply was, ANYONE WHO NEEDS YOUR HELP.

I think that preacher Warren did a great disservice in writing his book “The Purpose-Driven Life”, when HE said repeatedly that the Church is our family and that we SHOULDN’T GO outside it for friendship, or to give or get help. Believing THAT, I think, is one of the basic misunderstandings that many Christians have. If we only have friends or ask help of or give help to EACH OTHER, WITHIN the community of Christians, what outsider would EVER want to join? “What a bunch of SNOBS/WEIRDOS/HOLIER-THAN-THOU types!” Not to mention the sad-but-true fact that many if not most Christians have some relatives or family members who are not of the Christian persuasion. Our refusal to associate with THEM, due to their “lack of faith”, will likely alienate them all the more FROM us, AND our faith. I have known a few of these people, who are shunned by parents or siblings who have become born-again Christians, and they all wonder what Christianity IS, if it can cause people to start avoiding THEIR OWN CHILDREN.

Is THAT “going out into all the world to proclaim the Gospel”?

So, let us act as Christians, being “in the world, but not of it”, reaching out in Christlike love to other people,especially those in need, even those of other faiths, and even those of  NO faith.

2. Think globally, act locally.

Someday,never fear, Christ WILL return. That is our faith, and our message to the world,but  the Left has a near-monopoly on the world media. So, we need to go forward with the age-old maxim,”Passion and gradualness”, used so effectively by the LEFT. We grow our faith by scripture study, by personal prayer, and by acting on  the guidance of our conscience. Then, we can go out and be a LIGHT in our own TOWN,NEIGHBORHOOD, COMMUNITY. The more we do, the more we CAN do, the more we WANT to do,and the more good we WILL do, in our own community. If most Christians would get out there and ACT, LOCALLY, and KEEP AT IT,and involve our children as much as possible, we will see the TIDE TURN. The mass media can defame Christians and faith all they want, and it will lessen and eventually destroy the effect if LOTS of people have had POSITIVE EXPERIENCES with LOCAL CHRISTIANS.

This will mean that we have to CHANGE a little bit. Instead of going to church meetings 4 nights a week,we may have to take our children,prayerfully, to go help in the local soup kitchen one night a week and only attend church 3 nights. We may have to volunteer at the local PTA and actually rub elbows with some non-churchgoing people, and work with THEM to do some good in the school. We may have to attend training classes with our pets and go be a pet therapist handler at the local hospital or seniors home. We may have to go volunteer at the local library to teach illiterate people to read. Perhaps we can do these things as a church GROUP, but we really HAVE to HELP locally if we want to make things better for the Christian community,AND for our local community.

 If enough alert Christian parents had been to PTA and school board meetings in the 60s and 70s, the Leftist textbooks and class curricula used to indoctrinate our children and teenagers in the classroom, with such tragic consequences for them, for us and for the Church and nation, might never have been allowed. If we involve ourselves NOW…..

We have to change, if we want to SEE change.

3. We need to HAVE SOME FAITH.

Many early Christians were KILLED for it.

 I think the adversity we are going through at present is because we have been too long passive in the face of serious threats,too busy going about doing good in our families and at and for church,and when we finally woke up, the tide had turned against us. It looks VERY bad out there for us. Those early Christians didn’t go to war to save themselves, they hid, they prayed, and the whole known world was eventually Christianized.

We must have faith, NOW, when it looks as if America is sliding into a spiritual darkness like that all over Europe. We must do all we can to strengthen the cause of Christ on the earth. We should give all we can afford to to Christian charities. Let them become even bigger and more powerful than godless, corrupt UNICEF. Let us build floats  and have our people ride them in our town parades, with Christian music pouring from its speakers. Let us be fearless advocates of our faith, wherever  we go

Politics is the filthiest career on earth. All the most evil people of history were political dictators of one kind or another. Politics is corrupting to EVERYONE who undertakes it, to some degree, and Christians are MUCH better off staying OUT of it. Let us act as Christian individuals and congregations (NOT millions of sheeple in one group) to contact our politicians and express our views. Mass protests are tempting, but these days, any mass Christian protest would be met with a mass atheistic protest, since they watch us so carefully, and the media would gleefully report on THEM, not US. When our locally-elected politicians come back home to meet with the people, let’s go to those meetings, and politely but firmly state our concerns, and politely but firmly refuse to be shouted down by the opposition. By doing these things, we can get through to the politicians, maybe even ENLIGHTEN a few of them, where we failed to on the NATIONAL level. Every politician has to be re-elected to stay in office, and if a number of Christians (perhaps outnumbering their opponents) keep coming to public meetings, keep writing him letters (one issue per letter), keep sounding polite,pleasant and reasonable, he will be MUCH more inclined to pay attention to them than he will to an EVER-so-big protest demonstration in Washington. Above all, let us NOT encourage ANY Christian to become a politician. The way it looks now, Washington,DC is almost as efficient a soul-destroyer as Mecca.

We shall gain the victory in the end, but it will be much happier and successful a journey TO the end if we will each DO OUR PART.

Did YOU think it was gonna get this bad???

I tend to think catastrophically (“oh, this’ll be a DISASTER!!”), and KNOW that, so I try to calm myself down when a disaster-in-the-making seems headed in my direction. Over 99% of the time, the TIDAL WAVE  I was bracing for turned out to be a  boat wake that got my sneakers wet and inconvenienced my cat. So, the Obama phenomenon has been a whole new experience for me, emotionally. Let me explain.

I am always prepared to be disgusted at Democratic candidates in general. The Democrats, as a rule (1% of them excepted) tend to want to throw taxes, regulations and new government agencies at problems. When that fails, they pile on MORE tax money and regulations, and a BIGGER agency, or bring in another, already-created agency to “assist”, with predictable, resulting inefficiencies. Government agencies as a whole are inefficient,slow,corrupt,FOREVER,glacierlike in their speed to reacting to new realities,and burn money like it’s just paper (which it pretty much IS, nowadays). Democrats have yet to see that. They STILL have absolute faith in the ability of a big-enough, monied-enough government to solve EVERY problem, meet EVERY need,and the fact that  the United States government has so far miserably failed to bring about paradise on earth means that the taxes aren’t high enough, the government isn’t big enough, what’s worse, the EUROPEANS are therefore jealous of us, and so the government MUST get bigger and more intrusive into its citizens’ lives, and MUST squeeze MORE taxes out of those with some income who are not in a protected group. And they talk and behave as if “change” and “progress”, in and of themselves, are absolute goods, as if  to “keep on keepin’ on” is totally UNACCEPTABLE, whether it is right and works, or not. As if “going back to what works” is UNPARDONABLY TERRIBLE.

I saw that Obama was black, and was ALMOST willing to vote for him just for that. (I myself am white,female, and an Army veteran.) I am a lifelong conservative, though, and a patriot, with a particular soft spot for the military (having been in it). From that point of view, I felt that skin color was secondary to “the content of [a man's] character” in electing him for any public office,ESPECIALLY the presidency, where he will be the chief executive of the most powerful nation on earth. I didn’t like what I saw of Obama’s character. He’s good-looking,only in his 40s,has a nice smile, a charming personality,an impressive speaking voice,a slim wife who dresses well and has a HUGE smile…and that was about the end of the positives. I NEVER heard him talk publicly about what SPECIFIC policies he planned to put in place as the president. His speeches were well put-together, but devoid of any real information or sharing of himself, his goals, where he planned to lead us. He used the words “hope” and “change” a lot, without describing at all what change he MEANT, or what he hoped FOR. I saw him avoid saluting the flag, I heard some of the stupid things he said, like blaming ALL our fiscal problems on President BUSH alone,and I turned against voting for him, especially when I found out how pro-abortion he is and has been,not wanting his daughters to be “punished” by a baby. I found out further about all the funny business in Chicago, and saw how several of his friends and financial backers are or have been in prison, about Reverend Wright, and other things. I also saw how the media were practically SLOBBERING over him, “tingles up my leg” and all,and were AWOL in their responsibilities to actually INVESTIGATE this man that wanted to be President, and stayed silent while Hillary Clinton was practically hounded from her own Presidential campaign. What’re they trying to PULL? I thought, very uneasily. It further disgusted me that the press allowed hinm to turn them into his own PR staff, obviously setting himself up for photo and video ops that they fawningly turned out for. His lack of openness about himself and his plans and goals as president, they totally ignored.

 The GOP, as if trying to help him win, managed to put up the worst GOP candidate in history, with their “open primaries”. The “moderates” and “undecideds” voted for McPain in the primaries, giving us the worst candidate possible, then voted for OBAMA on election day.

The Wall Street “collapse” looked a little too conveniently timed to me,especially given that “Wall Street” had given Obama several TIMES as much money as they had McCain. It seemed obvious to me that they were gonna get him into the White House so that their “investment” would PAY OFF. History has shown that when a financial downturn occurs a few weeks or months before the election, the voting public ALWAYS blames it on the sitting President and his Party,and vote for the OTHER Party’s candidates. Wall Street KNEW that, so they engineered a “collapse” to ensure an Obama victory. I was a little comforted when Charles Krauthammer said the same thing on TV.

I read some uncomfortable info about Obama BEFORE the election,both on the Internet and in books, and watched Fox News, the only news outlet on TV that WAS checking into Obama’s politics and background, and a sick dread of what I knew was coming gripped me. Obama’s politics and background made him an obviously VERY poor choice for president. I would hear, again and again, that he said something REALLY stupid, childish or evil, and would not believe it, then someone would email a YouTube link about it, and I could see and hear Obama saying it,IN CONTEXT. Even so, they kept calling him a “rock star”, and crowds ACTED like he was one. Oprah openly campaigned for him, and said on her show after he was elected how happy she was. She called him “The One” after the Messiah-type guy in “The Matrix”, and millions of people who had forgotten that “The Matrix” was only a fictional MOVIE  picked up on her enthusiasm, and bought Obama as enthusiastically as they ever had “Oprah’s Club” books. THAT was scary, that a popular and powerful, billionaire Hollywood celebrity and businesswoman could virtually pick the President she wanted by encouraging millions of mindless fans to follow her and vote for him. I braced myself for the disaster that would be Election Day,2008.

I was disgusted almost as much by McCain. He had been all for open borders, and it had taken an ENORMOUS public outcry to defeat the idea in Congress, and he was angry about it still, and I was pretty sure that he’d open the borders as president. He voted AGAINST the marriage amendment, and he wasn’t the strongest pro-lifer ever, either. He seemed pretty erratic in his politics, too, His “maverick” status, so admired by the media, disgusted me. In my experience, the maverick is the person who will not commit to a side, or to a group of like-minded people, but wants to be a maverick because  he only wants to be for HIMSELF. Like  a HIPPIE, always “expressing myself”. His “straight talk” too often was ill-conceived, off-the-cuff remarks that he later had to apologize for. Also, he was known for being bad-tempered and for calling names and swearing at people who disagreed with him. He behaved as if he thought that NOBODY who disagreed with him could POSSIBLY have good ideas OR good motives, they were all either idiots, lying, or corrupt. His only real firm stands were pro-McCain and pro-illegal immigrants.He”crossed the aisle to get things done” so much that they had a SEAT saved for him, and tried to use that as a selling point to get himself elected president.Not the kind of man I wanted in the White House. “Getting things done” in Washington is NOT a Constitutional requirement, or even a virtue,in fact, the less they DO do, the better off  The People are, as a rule.

So, there I was, almost literally worried SICK when Obama won. What would the “unknown devil” DO? And it has been an emotional HORROR  for me, ever since. I awake,and check the news, and DAILY, he says or does something ELSE that is spectacularly ill-informed, misinformed, stupid,evil,or Communistic. Or a BUNCH of things. I am worried about the rubber-stamp Congress, the flouting of my Constitutional rights, about my tax burden, about funding my retirement, about LIVING  that long (if I can survive socialized medicine),about life for my grandchildren with the “public service” bill that’s been proposed and includes “service” for CHILDREN, and the huge public debt THEY will have to “service”. I am worried about us conservative bloggers being “scrubbed” and our posts being rejected,about the parade of NON-Christianity in the federal government and what it might mean to Christian churches in this country,about the simultaneous TRIPLING of the federal debt, expansion of “work-free” welfare and shrinkage of the military, of Obama’s demonstrated ineptitude in conducting foreign policy and ignorance/denial of the existence of IslamoNazism, the list is LOTS longer, and grows almost DAILY.

I am disgusted at how he STILL won’t be open. Where’s the “TRANSPARENCY”??? He never explains ANYTHING, or answers any questions off the cuff. He stutters and stammers and can’t even put together a sensible sentence WITHOUT a TelePrompter. A FIVE YEAR OLD would have handled the visit from PM Brown better than Obama did. The press has also been strangely non-critical about his announcement that he would 0nly allow the WHITE HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHER to take photos in the White House,and that only those photos that were passed by Obama himself would be allowed to be published.

Who IS his handler?? MICHAEL MOORE?????

Did YOU think it would get this bad?? I must say, it is MASSIVELY  WORSE than I ever really thought POSSIBLE.

Why I would be unfit to be President

1. I don’t take BAD advice, not even when it comes from movie stars, prominent feminists , billionaires,Oprah Winfrey and pals, or “elder statesmen”.

2.I want to do the right thing, and take whatever the consequences might be. If the truth is an ugly one, and might lose me the election, SO BE IT.

3. I am hopelessly pro-life. I have  a son who was born with a brain anomaly, and raised him. I am worlds away from perfect. If I can do it, ANYONE with average intelligence and a desire to, can do the same. Adoption is an option, if an unborn is found to be disabled some way, if  Mommy feels SURE she can’t “handle it”, or get help, either, but abortion should NOT be thought of as an option. So often, it is a “choice” that is FORCED upon a pregnant girl or woman by her angry boyfriend or parents or husband, whoever it is that she sees as her primary emotional support. The only “choice” she often has is between abortion and REJECTION by  the one that “loves” her.

Pregnancy is 9 months, abortion is FOREVER. A woman should not have to RAISE a child she does not want, but once she has consented to sex, she should realize that if a pregnancy results, there is a PERSON, NOT a “part of her body”, growing inside her, and that her inconvenience (or her boyfriend’s or mother’s) is insufficient reason to KILL that person. She DOES have EVERY right to GIVE THE BABY UP once it is born, but that nine months is what she pays for unprotected “fun”. An abortion is a VERY serious matter. I would only agree to it for incest or rape if such a crime was already reported to the police, and there was some EVIDENCE, NOT just “her word for it”, and even then, NOT if the pregnancy were past 3 months. It is also a little-known fact that only rarely does a rape result in a pregnancy. Also, it is a carefully-hidden truth that abortions are actually medically risky, that every year, thousands of women die or are permanently unable to bear children due to botched abortions, the INEVITABLE damage to the cervix from opening it while it is  ”green”,or infections arising from an abortion. Pregnancy and delivery is actually SAFER, especially for adolescent girls, though abstinence would be safer still, for ANY female of reproductive age.

These are truths that too many people not only refuse to face, but actively try to keep from the uninformed. I’d be a target for all segments of the abortion industry and lobby over TELLING!

4.I think that less government is better, and more personal involvement in the lives of our friends, family, coworkers, fellow believers, neighbors and relatives works better for EVERYTHING than almost ANY government program. A MUCH smaller federal government, that is structured along strict Constitutional lines, would need much less taxpayers’ money, and that would be like a large, permanent raise for every current taxpayer in America, and greater prosperity for future generations. To achieve that, practically all current federal agencies would have to be abolished,which would put many thousands of inefficient bureaucrats out of work, but the increase in money available in the economy would mean that those workers could be absorbed into the CIVILIAN workforce.

Still, that “loss of federal jobs” thing would have the civil service unionists howling for my head, and the professional lobbyists would be working overtime to block that from ever happening, if they could. They’d find out that I shot a goat once, and would blow that all out of proportion, and I’d be impeached, on the assumption that the dead goat (shot once in the mouth)  was a registered Democrat.

5.  I stopped drinking alcohol completely at age 11(having only had a couple of beers and a sip of champagne before then), and have NEVER smoked or even TRIED drugs. I am a recovering “Coke”-aholic, but that would be deemed insufficient “experience”. Further, I have been to bed with exactly 2 men, my former and current husbands. Finally, I have only bet $1 in my whole life, at a booth at the New York state fair, in my teens. Several years ago, I spent several hours inside a casino in New Jersey with my then-husband, then slept on our friend’s yacht, which was docked just outside it, and gambled NOTHING. People would think I’m too much of a….well, my lack of experience in the popular vices would be a liability. If you can’t trust someone who doesn’t drink, you could never trust ME.

6. I’m white,female, and conservative, and a believer in the Constitution as the founding document of this, the greatest country on God’s green earth, as Michael Medved so aptly calls it. I have 7 kids, 6 grown,  by my first husband, plus another 7, all grown, that are as dear to me as my own, that grew up with my current husband. Worse even than Sarah Palin,what a HUGE carbon footprint! Yes, and I MOVED 16 times, the last time,from New York to Washington State. And ALWAYS by CAR! The treehugger lobby would be VERY unhappy with such a fertile Myrtle and highly experienced automobile driver in the White House.

I can ride a horse, too, though.

 I never finished college. I read, voraciously. I SEE things. I KNOW things. I REMEMBER things. I have some familiarity with history, with the history of the Communist and Islamist movements, the Nazi movement, the anti-slavery movement, the Ku Klux Klan movement. So I’d tend to make decisions and policies based on HISTORY and FACTS and the LONG TERM GOOD OF MY COUNTRY, rather than on political expediency, or what “our allies” are thinking, saying or doing.

7. I have a VERY strong Christian belief, and also believe VERY strongly that EVERYONE has a God-given right to believe what they want, or even be an atheist or agnostic, if they think they want to. I believe, just as strongly, that “your right to swing your fist ends where the other person’s nose begins”. I will not even PRETEND to accept militant activists from ANY group trying to force their beliefs on others. I will not stand still for ANY special interest group using the schools as indoctrination centers for their agendas. We can’t teach Christianity in the schools? FINE. If that is so, then we  must not teach homosexuality, ANY sexuality,environmentalism, Islam, “diversity”, or any OTHER “ism” or belief system that favors ONE point of view over all the OTHERS. Every PERSON deserves some respect,just for EXISTING,but not all IDEA SYSTEMS do. Trying to advance one’s ideas by force-feeding them to “young skulls full of mush” (Rush Limbaugh’s take on “students”) that are OTHER people’s kids is a moral crime. Believing that would be certain to get me into someone’s bad graces.

8.  Mohammed wrote in the Koran that Allah wants everyone in the world to become converts to Islam, or to be killed by the Moslems, or, at the very least, to be fiercely oppressed, be deprived of ALL rights, and persecuted by the Moslems until they convert. This is codified in Sharia law.

Few Moslems actually participate in the killing of “infidels”, but a billion or so non-killing Moslems help to finance them through contributing to Moslem “charities”, some of which (no Western expert knows how many) directly finance terrorism. Conveniently for the Islamofascist terrorists ,Mohammed said that contributing to Moslem charities was one of the basic requirements of Islam, so the vast majority of practicing Moslems DO contribute, and there is an unending river of money going to finance the slaughter of civilians, some of whom are themselves Moslem, of the “wrong” sect. This is NOT politically correct to talk about, but I would remember it, and act upon it,  as President. I would work to have Islam redefined in our laws as a totalitarian social movement rather than a religion, since that is what it acts like. Moslems who wanted to work in sabotage-sensitive areas like airports would have to be both legally here, and pass a VERY thorough background check by the INS. (Perhaps some Christian Arabs could be recruited to do the required English translation of Arab documents.) The applicant would be expected to pay for the actual cost of the investigation, and if they passed it, and remained crime-free for 10 years, the amount would be refunded to them over a period of 5 years. Moslems already in such places of work would be subject to it too. All Moslems of terrorist background would be immediately fingerprinted, deported to their country of origin as undesirables, and barred from returning. If they have family here that they are supporting, their family goes with them.With a policy like that, I would probably have enough trouble with CAIR that I would be forced to deport its officers as undesirable aliens under the Alien Sedition Act. Their lapdogs in Congress and the press would have a field day over THAT.

These are the reasons why I’d make a poor President.

Freedom can be LOST with a new “right”

Not all that long ago, in many jurisdictions, contraceptives other than condoms were illegal to sell to ANYONE,single or married. Then the Supreme court ruled that those laws were “unconstitutional”, and not long after, ruled that laws against selling contraceptives to SINGLE people werr likewise unconstitutional. That changed America.

On the face of it, what could be wrong with legalizing contraceptives for everyone? As it turned out, there were and are problems with  oral contraceptives, from a medical standpoint, and to a lesser extent, with topical contraceptives. Once they were made legal, and therefore widely and openly available, the culture changed. For eons, a woman or adolescent girl could refuse to have sex with a man or boy on the grounds that she might get pregnant, and that fact was widely accepted as a reason to refuse sex, and to remain unbedded until the gal’s wedding night. She didn’t even have to admit to having Christian morals,if she didn’t want to. With the mass marketing of contraceptives, all that changed, dramatically. In just a few years, girls went from having a right to say “no” and still have male admirers, to having to say “yes” or riskbeing dateless. “I don’t want to get pregnant” was answered by,”Why aren’t you on the Pill?” If the girl should say,”I want to save myself for marriage, I believe that is the right way for me to behave”,she was usually jeered at, and the boy would repeat the story all over the school, setting her up for a long period of social isolation, no boy wanted to be caught dating a girl whom everyone knew wouldn’t be bedded. “If you won’t got to bed with me, I’ll drop you and find another girl who ISN’T a prude”, was the battle cry, and lots of girls have felt compelled to have sex before they wanted to,just to not “lose” the guy. So, the “right” to contraception became a societal NORM to the extent that those girls and women of childbearing age  who would like to have the right to refuse premarital sex are finding that it comes with a painfully high price these days. Also, finding a likewise virgin male is harder now than ever, since pregnancies can now be successfully prevented, and any fellow who wants to can sow his wild oats without fear of a harvest as long as his lovers are on the Pill.

 Also, with the explosive rise in premarital and extramarital sex has come a societal preoccupation with sex and with “sexy” people and images,and it is harder all the time to AVOID them. The “right of freedom of expression” is becoming near-absolute,with regards to sex, and is disappearing , with regards to virtue and high moral standards, so the right to BELIEVE, guaranteed in the Constitution, is being eroded, and with it, the ability to maintain one’s personal morality, and to encourage morality in others.

Abortion is marketed and defended as a woman’s “right to choose”. In practice, she often does NOT choose abortion, it is FORCED upon her, by her callous boyfriend or husband, or by her parents. SOMEONE ELSE does not want to help her to raise a  baby, or share her love with a baby, or is not ready for fatherhood at this time, or with this woman, so she is harshly pressured into killing her unborn baby. In one study, over 70% of the women at one abortion clinic reported that the decision that she have an abortion was made by someone ELSE. So the “right to choose” is , in practice, often NOT the WOMAN’S right, at all, but the” right” of whoever she is dependent upon for emotional support.

What’s OK with religion…and Christians

There are a LOT of militant atheists in the Western world, who not only have convinced themselves that there is no God, but who want to destroy all faith in Him in everyone ELSE. To that end, they have written books railing against God and religion (ESPECIALLY Christianity),and created TV shows and movies that, just a few decades ago, would have been deemed too blasphemous to stage. The ACLU, a well-funded and powerful organization that was founded by a group of Communist atheists, has gone to court, again and again, to DEFEND such “artists” as Mapplethorpe, with his “Piss Christ”, and, on the other hand, to suppress any and all public displays of religion by threatening to take the perpetrators of such things to court. They have won, over and over, too. There are militantly atheistic blogs and websites all over the Internet, more all the time. It is almost as if we were back in imperial Rome, except that Christians haven’t been slaughtered in the Coliseum..yet.

WHY? Why do they work so hard to suppress Christianity and Christians?

It must be because they see in Christianity a threat, a threat of their own massively overwrought imaginings. They were taught about the Crusades , but from the point of view of the Mohammedans, NOT the TRUTH , so they think that the Crusades were nothing more than European knights just going to the Holy Land to slaughter the Mohammedans for fun and profit. They assume that, since the knights called themselves Christians,  ALL Christians must be murderously intolerant of other, non-Christian people. They overlook or never learned that the Crusades happened almost a thousand years ago.

 The militant atheists  look back at the Dark Ages, when the Catholic Church persecuted scientists who taught that the earth went around the sun, when the Spanish Inquisition was going on, when Jews were being persecuted,dispossessed, and outlawed all over Europe, some being forcibly baptized, Jewish children being taken from their own parents to be raised in Christian families as Christians. These horrid things WERE being done, by “Christians”, but NOT because these deeds were justified by any scriptures at ALL. These deeds were done by people, illiterate people, who owned and read NO books, because only the clergy and royalty KNEW how to read, back then. The clergy and royalty were  a law unto themselves, and could sway the people any way they wanted to, since the people trusted them not to lie about what the Bible said to do, or NOT do. The mass ignorance came to an end with the invention of the printing press. That made possible the proliferation of Bibles and other books, and as the Bible was translated into people’s personal languages from the Latin, and education became more widespread,the clergy and royalty lost power. The Renaissance flowered, and with it, the arts, literature, science and exploration. Wars still happened, but as time passed, Christian morality began to creep in even there. Whereas in times past, wounded soldiers of the losing side in a battle were slain where they lay by the victors, treaties were signed, and the wounded of the losing side were treated by the victors, and eventually sent home after the war. The evils of the past were PAST.

Anyone who would  blame Christianity for the rise of Nazi Germany (“after all, wasn’t Germany a Christian nation?”) would be in error. Nazism was steeped in the occult, and was anti-Christian. Many Christian clergymen and lay people who preached against the evils of Nazism were imprisoned, and many died of abuse, starvation and diseases there. Hitler had all the Bibles removed from the churches and replaced by copies of “Mein Kampf”, and all clergymen had to take an oath of loyalty to Hitler in order to be allowed to keep their posts,otherwise they were not allowed to preach. Hitler said that Christ was the bastard son of a Roman soldier, and railed that Christianity weakened the German people, which is why it was outlawed.

Christianity, along with all major religions EXCEPT Islam, teaches the brotherhood of man, that we should deal fairly,kindly and generously with others, and that we should forgive our enemies and pray for them. The Bible does say that homosexuality is a sin, but also that we should “hate the sin and love the sinner”. Slavery was ended by Christians, who saw that the Bible doesn’t allow for it. The Declaration of Independence says, “all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights”, and the Christian abolitionists believed that, too. The Civil War was fought in part because people didn’t want to allow the Southern states to cecede and keep their slaves forever. The civil rights era came to be partly because of the efforts of Christian activists, like the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Reverend Ralph Abernathy, along with others. Christians saw to the end of children in the workplace, the establishment of the first free public schools and libraries and parks, the suppression of barbaric practices in colonized countries  like infanticide,child sacrifice and the forced suicide of the newly widowed, and created organizations galore to aid the sufferings of the poor and disaster victims (the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, among countless others). The American Humane Association and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were both founded on Christian principles, as was Boys Town. Also, the YMCA and YWCA, which actually stood for Young Mens Christian Association and Young Womens Christian Association. Almost all of us are acquainted with some Christian or other, whose religious views make him or her enjoyable to be around, who is an inspiration to us, and makes us glad to have him or her as a friend.

My point is, what have the ATHEISTS done to help anyone? What joy have THEY ever inspired in anyone? When’s the last time the ACLU or  People for the American Way went to a flood area and aided the suffering there, or when did THEY open and run a soup kitchen, operate a leper colony, bathe and feed an orphan, set up and run a hospital in the wilds in a foreign country to serve people who cannot pay, or fight to defend the helpless with no thought of reward or advantage to be gained?

I pity them.
