What are we THINKING???

In a recent survey, over half the people questioned WANT the government to “give” us “universal health care”.What are we THINKING???The federal government is the same institution that has made a MESS out of Social Security, the IRS and taxing, the FDA, the USDA, and practically everything else EXCEPT the military, and THAT has been abused, especially servicepeople and veterans! They’ve REALLY made a mess of foreign relations!

I am NOT Bush-bashing here, we’ve had problems caused by the federal government’s corruption and ignorance dating back almost to the beginning of our great nation. The point I am making is that  the federal government is and was corrupt and often ignorant, and, since FDR, collossal and inefficient, too, WHY do we want to trust it with our HEALTH CARE? Don’t we see how awful government-supplied health care is, everywhere it is tried?

And, of course, nature hates duplication. Once we sit back and allow “the government” to “give” us “free” healthcare, we will soon lose the ability to EVER have private-sector healthcare again. And it’s SUCH a lie, anyway. There IS no FREE healthcare! If you are completely without any money and are getting “free” healthcare, SOMEONE is paying for it, either as a willing donation to medical charity, or through taxes. If we EVER get “universal” healthcare, it will mean that we all get healthcare that is ENTIRELY FUNDED BY OUR TAXES.  And it will be TERRIBLE. In Europe, they have “universal” healthcare, and of course they cannot afford to give everyone excellent care, so they do “triage” just like in a MASH unit in wartime, only on a HUGE scale. Only, they don’t, like the MASH unit does, merely sort patients by the severity of their injuries and illnesses. They also look at what the patient means to the SOCIETY, in order that the tax-funded “universal” healthcare received will actually result in some benefit to society . So, a badly handicapped infant born to a poor family is unlikely to get any treatment, the same would go for a middle-aged, unemployed woman who has  a major injury or illness, but whose children are all grown. On the other hand, the child of a wealthy industrialist, or a woman with young children still to raise, or a worker in a key industry, WOULD receive health care, because they’d be likely to contribute more in taxes than would be spent to treat them. THAT is the reality, and so is the reality that there are NEVER enough doctors and hospitals available to treat all the tax-funded patients in a “universal health care system”, so we see things like the woman in labor in Manitoba who has to be flown to Ontario to give birth because THAT was where the NEAREST AVAILABLE MATERNITY BED was!

Currently, health care IS hideously expensive. That is because the Federal government used the Medicare and Medicaid programs and expansions of them to buy votes. That meant a huge inflow of tax dollars into the medical care system. Nobody was keeping an account of what was actually being PAID FOR with all that money. Why should a doctor charge 2 grand for an operation if he can bill Medicare for 10 grand and get it? Crime and corruption were rampant, and since demand for medical care for old people skyrocketed, that fueled price increases, since supplies were NOTskyrocketing. The price rise led to benefit increases, and shortages, which led to more price hikes, and so on ad infinitum. Things would have been much better had the OLD system been left alone, where most people paid for their medical care as they needed it, and poor people could go to free clinics and to county-funded and charity hospitals and get decent care for free. Best of all, it was all under local control, and there weren’t thousands of pages of federally-mandated and unfunded regulations and laws that required staff members just to comply with paperwork requirements.

Our medicines are expensive, partly due to federal overfunding, and partly so the drug companies can pay for huge liability insurance premiums, made necessary by greedy, dishonest, white collar criminals with lawyer licenses, with no thought for what will happen AFTER they “get their cut”.

If you find my arguments unconvincing, just go visit the nearest VA hospital and randomly ask patients that you see how well they are being treated there. THAT is “government health care” for you!

So the next time you hear a leading Democrat shouting about “high quality, free health care for EVERY AMERICAN!”, don’t buy it. No matter HOW you slice it, it’s still BALONEY.
